What a Night in Madrid

What a night in Madrid, as Cristiano Ronaldo's 90th minute goal sealed the deal in a 3-2 victory over Manchester City.

Today, Mourinho had a team.  Maybe not three days ago after Sevilla started off with a bang, and I mean a bang, as they scored in the opening minute against the Real Madrid and held off with a 1-nil victory.

Manchester City came in to Santiago Bernabéu Stadium struggling early, the only player noteworthy of watching in the black and gray jersey was Yaya Touré.  Real Madrid's coach Jose Mourinho reshaped Roberto Mancini's 4-5-1 formation early, to what seemed like a 7-2-1, as they attacked quickly and consistently.

The only thing that kept the game scoreless at halftime was either City goalkeeper Joe Hart, or Real Madrid's inability to finish.  I still believe it was Joe Hart.  The English international came ready to play, and needed to, as he saved two fantastic shots in the 8th and 12th minute from Ronaldo.

Edin Džeko, the bosnian Striker was substituted 62 minutes into the game, as Mancini, and everybody watching the game knew they needed more ammo up top to have any shot of beating Real Madrid.  Madrid fired away early in the 2nd half as Marcelo blasted two shots outside the 18 just wide of the posts.

Mancini's substitution paid off quick, in 6 minutes to be exact, when a break orchestrated by a charging Touré run down the middle, was finished with a Džeko left foot that slid past Casillas.

That's when the see-saw battle inaugur
ated, as Marcelo's shot in the 76th minute evened up the score.  Manchester City took another one goal lead in the 85th minute, when Kolarov's free kick went untouched as it bounced in to the far post.

Madrid retaliated quickly, as Karim Benzema turned towards the goal and struck in a low shot right inside the right post.  Then... the most expensive player in the world did what he gets paid to do, score.  It just happened to be in the 90th minute of a 2-2 game when Ronaldo added the finishing touches to an already tense and dramatical game in Madrid.
